Latvia’s Pape Nature Park is a seasonal resting and feeding ground for millions of migrating birds as well as a year-round home for wild horses and cattle.
This observation tower was imagined as a point of intensity, amplifying the sensuality of the environment and strengthening the link between humans and wildlife.
Nature is not observed from above, but rather experienced from within the tower. Its primary role as a viewing point is supplemented with an interactive installation of sound dishes made with locally crafted ceramic tiles in parabolic arrays that reveal the park’s most powerful moments: waterfowl on the lake, horses at play along the marsh banks, and the hum of a traditional fishing village along the Baltic coast.
By acting as a node to heighten the senses, the tower provides a more nuanced way to experience the park.
