Meridian Square and Stratford Station were in need of a dynamic, multifunctional design that channeled the physical and metaphorical typologies of the area as they prepared to welcome both the 2012 Summer Olympics and new development.
The Fractal Group’s proposed kiosk sits on the angular grid created by the site’s two biggest focal points—the station itself and the stairs that lead to the Olympic Village—and was whimsically pushed, pulled, and distorted to meet various demands as they emerge.
The building’s roof rises higher in the café to bathe the area in natural light, while the floor curls up organically to create a desk area for the information counter. Everything combines to ensure unique and unexpected experiences throughout the complex as well as the promise of constant reinvention.
